1280x768 via VGA on my LCD

I've been using my 26" LCD connected to my main PC via DVI and it's excellent when set to 1:1 mapping (1280x768).

I have another PC in the same room and I've been trying to get that set up to use the VGA input connected to my nVidia 6800LE card. The problem is that the card insists on outputting 1024x768 no matter what I do. I've tried powerstrip and although that tells me its running the desired resolution the info on the LCD says it's still 1024x768.

The nVidia settings also say it's 1280x768. The text is blurred on web pages and difficult to read.

Any suggestions anyone?

Don't say buy a DVI switch, they cost more than my PC!
