anybody put one of these in their sky+ box any any problems. 5400rpm 120Gb HDD are a rather rare comodity so I was wondering if anybody has sucessfully used a faster dive. Where I live we get frequent powercuts so a drive which the box wont recognise after a powercut is no use to me

On a slightly different isuse, what would happen if you were to switch the power on after a cut, give the disk time to spin up (but assuming too slow for the box to reconise it, then do a quick power off/on so the disk had not stopped spinning and would therefore power up quicker: would this work???

I had a Maxtor DiamondMax9 120GB, 7,200RPM drive in my Sky+ box now for about three weeks and have not noticed any problems as yet and it does not seem to get any hotter than the old Maxtor 5,400RPM drive that came out.

I did however leave off the top part of the drive holder inside the Sky+ box to allow for better heat dissipation.

    Cheers, Lee

see http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64459 (my last comment in that thread)

have had a 120 GB 7200 rpm disk in since Xmas.
No prob with initial installation... started up first time, just follow std installation instructions. There are a few others with 7200 MAXTOR disks who also reported no probs.
I don't believe the spin up time is an issue anymore.

New Disk seems to work with the jumper set to either Master (first one on the left) or Cable Select (2nd from left)... which is what my orig disk was set to... so not sure if it makes any difference which you use
