1080p Plasma & LCD

I've looked around here for a while but can't seem to find an answer. I'll try to put this as simply as I can.

Some people prefer plasma & some prefer lcd, I understand that.

As far as I can see, there's only the Pioneer 5000ex plasma that has a 1080p native resolution, so:

If you have an lcd tv that has a native resolution of 1080p, would this have a better picture when watching Blu-Ray & HD-DVDs that are encoded in 1080p than any of the plasmas that aren't 1080p? I know some people say you can't always notice the difference between 720p & 1080p.

I hope this makes sense because I'm planning on buying a flatscreen next year & wanting to get a tv that makes the most of Blu-Ray & HD-DVD. I was leaning heavily towards plasma but want to get this cleared up first!

Any help would be much appreciated & sorry if I'm going over old ground!

the resolution is only one small part of the Picture quality you need to look far beyond the simplistic market of bigger numbers are better to find the best. Have you seen my signature?

I realise that, I was just a bit confused and I'll be spending around 2k on a tv next year which is alot of money to me & want to get as much info as I can before I go and view some tv's and buy one.

The tv in the link above is nice but double my budget and too big for my room (13' x 8')!

Thanks for the reply though HD.

but in terms of PQ a lower res screen like the PH9 42" 1024x768 res would suit better or indeed the 50" version for something really special try the P42XHA58EB Fujitsu plasma (bit over budget) and dont go looking in comet and currys they all look awful!

You have to sit very close to the screen to see the difference in terms of resolution. See here

Other than that I prefer the image on a plasma above those of LCD because I can't stand the motion blur and poor blacks of even the best LCD

resolution is all about viewing distances the higher the
resolution the closer you can sit to the screen without
any loss in PQ. the whole 1080p thing is just a marketing ploy
to try and get you to buy the very latest technology
the fact is you'll find it impossible to tell the difference
between 1080p and other HD resolutions from a normal
viewing distance.
