The Sony X-series brought 1080p to the consumer market. Other manufacturers will follow shortly. What do you think will happen in a year or two in the LCD market? Everything will surely be 1080p but how large will the LCD screens get for example in the £2000-£3000 price range and what features will improve compared to today's top models?

    Any thoughts?

And what do you think will be LCD's position compared to other technologies at that time?

1080p are screens are great if you have some 1080p material to actually watch and want to go very big screen.

they also must have damm good scalers to play SD TV material on them, because at present about 99% of UK TV is not in HD and will look poor on 1080p sets

at present a 1080p screen is great for bluray/hd-dvd and HTPC use but thats about it.

for normal TV viewing an SD CRT is still the best IMO, and for sky HD or xbox 360/ps3 a 1080i or 720p set will do nicely for the small handfull of channels if offers.

    all IMO of course

Would 720p material scale better on that size screen than 1080p stuff would?
