Any opinions on either and which one is the better ?

Most reviews say the Yamaha, but is the Sony that bad ?

On appearances the Sony looks the biz especially in Silver but how is it sonically ?

    Ekko Star,
If you are talking Richer Sounds money for both, I would go for the £299.00 Sony STR-DB1070.
Ok, the power is less than stated, but in a normal size lounge with reasonable speakers, say Mission 77 pack, the Sony has really good separation and detail coupled with speedy steering effects.
The Yamaha in comparison is a loud radio on a building site.
I have tried them both, and own a DSP-AX1 so no axe to grind against Yamaha.
Having said that, if you can stretch to a Sony STR-VA555ES it is fantastic in comparison, if not try and get a STR-DB940 or 930, I used both of these when they were new, and both were better than the 1070.

The RXV630 is out already and offers DLP2 in addition to the usual RXV620 . ( not sure about Neo) It seems to be doing the rounds for 349.99. Not seen any reviews but a few people on newsgroups have it and rate it.

    thx for the info guys.

I like the Yamaha's as I've had one before, good build quality etc and good sonically.

It's just that some people have said the 1070 can be bit harsh/tinny over a long period of time.

I simply fancy a change so I may well go for the Sony, as I say for looks it's really is nice.

@gringottsdirect just noticed the ad, do RS have it in silver m8?
