Hi guys, selling my XPS laptop on eBay, and hoping to build a rig with the money I make. I have a monitor and cables, mouse, keyboard, software etc, so literally just need to build the tower.

Main aim is a good comp that will run BF3 on ultra. If i shop around, I think I could squeeze in a 6950 and a decent i5, what do y'all think? It's a while since I dipped into the components market, and i'm a little out of touch with what compliments each other etc.

:lease:

If you by any chance have a spare hard drive to install then how about something along the line of the following. CPU is from amazon but everything else spec'd from OcUK.

Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155) £167.40

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-Z68XP-UD3] £99.98

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £29.99

Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.98

HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X PLUS Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Supplied with Battlefield 3, Dirt 3 & Deus Ex PC Games** £227.99

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler £25.99

Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £59.99

Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case - Black £69.98

Total £697.31 (exc delivery)

Use the code "cmdouble" to get £20 off when you buy any CoolerMaster Case with either the CoolerMaster Silent Pro Modular 500w or 600w. If you don't have a HDD to hand then get a GTX560Ti and a cheaper case.

Thanks a lot for your advice mate. I researched around all the components and in the end went for

2500k
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 (UD3 was out of stock and difference looked minimal)
Corsair Vengeance Low profile RAM 8GB (offers were different from OC the week i bought)
crappy dvd drive
MSI frozr 2gb 6950
Cooler master silent pro m600w
xigmatek white knight case
cooler master 212+ fan
Seagate 500GB 6gb/s hd

It's been great so far, bf3 arrives tmrw so can test it out, but the cpu is running at good temps (around 50 at 100% load). So yeah, thanks for the advice.

Excellent components, the case looks pretty interesting too. The main thing you lose with the Z68AP-D3 is the ability to add a second graphics card but if that's of no interest then it's still a very good budget board. How much did all that come to in the end?
