    Hello chaps.

Would like to try out an arcam DVD Player, also used for CD playback to a Denon 2805 amp.

What can I pick up for around the £500 mark, give or take, second hand? Not looking to buy brand new, as you get more quality for your money this way!

Would like to replace my Denon amp with an arcam amp later in the year too.

    Many thanks.

    Scott :)

You should able to get your hands on a DV89 for around that price if anyone is selling one.

Hey, thanks for the recomendation boss.

What's so good about the DV89? Features etc?

How would you rate the following?

    DVD Image (progressive scan) /10
    DVD Sound sound /10
    CD Stereo Playback /10

It's going to be connected to a PW6.

    Cheers
    Scott

DVD Image: 8/10 (I would definitely change your display for somehthing else though if you want to get the best out of it, a decent DLP projector would be a good start, like the Sharp XV-Z2000)

DVD Sound: 9/10 Absolutely superb, although if you are using the digital outputs then the processor/receiver will have more of an effect on this and the Denon 2805 is definitley not up to scratch.

CD Playback: 10/10 for a DVD player. The CD playback is very good indeed, about on a par with the Arcam CD73 player at £400 which is very good for a DVD player.

I would seriously suggest you upgrade your speakers first and foremost though. Although the Bronze series are good they will not even come remotely close to doing justice to the other equipment you are looking at. The Monitor Audio Gold series is a very good match for the AVR300 and DV89 so you better start saving your pennies.

    that these guys
http://www.audiot.co.uk/html/offers/home_cinema.html are selling DV89s ex-dem for just under a grand, matey-boy's link to 500 notes is a bloody steal. Just shows the power of shopping around. If I was after a DVD player, I'd jump at it. In fact, come to think of it, I might just jump at the b*d anyway. That kinda January impulse buy...
