I have approx £400 for a sub, I was going to go for a Rel Q150 but have been put off by the posts about it being weak and not worth the money.

Can anyone recommend other subs (not secondhand) for around this price range.
Someone mentioned a ASW650, which manufacturer is this?.

Which other manufacturer/models are there to consider for around the £400 mark?. B&W from what I am aware are extremely expensive.

    TIA

    B&W.
Shame you don't wan't to go second hand - I just picked up a REL Q100E for £300.
Do you mean M&K - they are expensive (especially compared to their US prices).

    Cheers,
    Liam

I can't understand why the older Q100 are better than the new Q150.
I have looked around for a new 100 but cant find them anywhere.
I found a Q50 at hifijunkies but i am not sure if this is to low spec.

Who makes a sub called the "pro50" ?

I think you´ll find the Q100 has been discontinued.

You´ll need to track one down 2nd hand or find a dealer that still has stock (difficult!!)

Is the Pro50 an MJ acoustics sub?? seems to ring a bell somewhere, could be wrong though!!

The Q50 is an excellent sub. It was the forerunner of the Q100 and had a lower powered amplifier but was given 5 stars by all of the magazines at the time. Hifi Confidential in London are selling them at £300 which is a bargain.

Don't confuse power ratings with sound volume as these go loud.

I still use the original Q Bass which is only rated at 40 watts but I think that REL watts are bigger than normal watts as I can still wake the dead with it.

Have you had a look at / listen to the Vibe Alpha?

I haven't heard it yet but it has been getting good reviews and my local dealer seems to think it rocks.

The new Vibe Alpha 1 is very good, just over 1 cubic foot, 200w sub with 10" driver (REL style one), £300, bargain!

This is more like it. Half the price of the equivalent REL for the same specs. Now we are getting somewhere.:)

I'm afraid it was me who started the rumers. One listen to the old Q40/50 and you will find that even these outperforms the new 150-200's. What a backward step for REL.
Richard Lord, what have you done?

    Eric
p.s. If anyone goes to Hi Fi Confidential in Victoria, let me know. I know the M.D. very well and can get probably get the prices knocked down a little more for you.

    >I'm afraid it was me who started the rumers.

Arhhh Eric, it is you who i have to blame, for my sub-less and clueless situation then ;-).

Thanks for the Alpha recommendation i will try and find out more about this. (unfortunately the website is not listing any info about it at the moment http://www.v-i-b-e.com)

The pro50 mentioned earlier (thx jase) apparently isn't that good, gchaplin in another thread was able to compare it with a Rel, so thats gone off my list.
