Have a list of possibles for this price bracket, has anyone got any comments good or bad.I dont need hdmi or dvi, divx. Its purely a movie machine via component. Not bothered about cd replay either. Toshiba sd-9500 ,arcam dv88/88+,denon 2800/2900. I appreciate that i may have to buy used on some of these but that is fine.

I have just upgraded from a pioneer 575 to a pioneer 757ai, i would say the 575 is equal to your 340e in pq, the 757 wipes the floor with the pioneer 575, so should out perform yours easily,Sound quality with cd is a lot better to.

Worth reading this thread from start to finish Spocktra, the units sold "end of line" by Toshiba at xmas times (which many forum members bought) were actually prog scan enabled, even though Toshiba said they would not be. Only problem seems to be getting them MR. Saying that though, this machine is so superlative in everything it does - Ive forgone MR, I use my old DVD for that.
