£30 Pci Adsl Modems

    Anyone got one of the £30 adsl modems ?

    Im abit sceptical about anything that is cheap.

    Is there any lag ?

    anything that i should know about before I finally dumb ntls rip off 128k service and go with adsl ?

    Don't know if you've done anything yet but if you haven't...

    Go for an external DLink Router. I have a DSL-504. You can get one for about £80. It has NAT giving you a firewall and 4 ports so you can home network and allow other PCs to access the net without using MS ICS. It's also very fast!

    I'll second that; the cheapo PCI cards are effectively winmodems - which means they use processor power to drive ADSL at a fairly low level; experiences I have seen suggest that a 1Ghz processor playing games like counterstrike will give approx 1/2 the frame rate with USB or PCI ADSL thingy compared to external router (and you can get a firewall in there as well these days!)
