Considering the major EU broadcasters seem to be adopting a mpeg4 varianty it is perhaps not as future proof as you would want it even for that price not forgetting you need the smartcard as well to make use of HD1.

If you have no interest in SKY's HD service then perhaps waiting a while for domestic mpeg4 FTA/CAM enabled HD STB's to enter the market may be more sensible or going for a PC solution:)

It will be interesting to see whether it decodes 4.2.2 like the Qualitv box
If so it is a bargain for feedhunters.

How does mpeg4 fit in with things anyway? i.e. would say the PV500 have problems with it?

The codec used by both HD broadcasters and pre-recorded media is not an issue, the appropriate STB or player will decode this and then feed the video data to your chosen display via component or DVI/HDMI depending upons the hardwares spec.

The problem with buying a dedicated mpegII STB is that it is unlikely to have the ability to be upgraded to handle mpeg4 data which requires far more processing power to decode and hence for best results a dedicated hardware solution is preferred. A mpeg4 STB will of course decode a mpegII datastream which is what SKY are banking on so their future customers have a single STB which allows viewing of all the SKY SD and HD output.

Since SKY, Premiere and TPS along with EURO1080 are launching mpeg4 based HD content buying into a mpegII only solution may not be the best long term decision but that's not to say at the right price you will not get some use out of it:)

I am about to buy a sat receiver for feeds etc. So this will decode the Astra HD. HD Forum and Pro 7 HD channels ? Is it likerly to be ok for any Sky HD FTA offerings ?

How many feeds etc use 4.2.2 ? What is this mode anyway ?

EBU feeds on 7 degrees East plus perhaps 10-15% of other feeds use 4:2:2.
4:2:2 contains more colour (chroma) information than standard (so called) 4:2:0 - too much for most MPEG2 decoders to handle.

How does that Neotion card output MPEG4 in HD? It didn't seem to have any video output connectors.

Could it be that it is designed for Standard Def MPEG4, and internally transcodes to MPEG2 SD - which is then decoded by the STB as normal?

Of course it might also transcode HD MPEG4 to HD MPEG2 I guess?

Does it have Dolby Digital output? (Optical?)
Or maybe the question doesn't make sense?

I just wondered what audio standard is supported.

Remarkably to this ZDX-640 concept is that the HD recipient had HDD with large of 160 Gb. Moreover there also ethernetaansluiting are present beside RS232 and USB termination. It is still unclear if these ethernet connection are present connection in huiselijk network possible make or to be able be in contact with with provider by means of an intranet work. Zinwell deliver ZDX-640 the custum made to betaaltelevisieproviders. By means of the wishes of these provider specifications can be adapted.
