PlayUSA are selling the Simpsons - Complete Season 4 for £22.99.
Silly question-but do you think it will get past customs?

I ordered The V: which cost £22.99 and that managed to get pass :D

It might get past customs ok but if it doesnt you can expect to be paying about £8 in fees.

Just a shame you didnt order it from DVDSoon when it was first released as it was under £17 then and you didnt have to worry about customs, gone upto over £21 now.

You simply have to assume that anything over GBP18 will be charged, and then be pleased if it isn't.

I tried this from DVDSoon the other day. My first ever over the customs limit order (about £24) and it got caught. Won't be doing that again!

Is there a site that tells you what you can import and what you can't? Like to know/see for myself what the limits are, whether it includes p+p etc...

It's a shame that they no longer lie on the outside packaging about the value of goods inside. I remember ordering 2 GC games that came to a total of £55, but on the pack it stated the goods were worth just £10. On the whole, I'd suggest the risks were worth it. Though I must admit it helps that I've never been made to pay the tax even though I've ordered numerous items over the limit from all over, (USA/CAN/HK/AUS). Touch wood I won't be caught in the future, though it's bound to happen.

Play.com used to sell both R1 and R2 DVDs but that changed awhile ago and now you can only get R2 titles from Play.com (Jersey) and R1 titles from PlayUSA.com (USA or Canada, not sure)

just remember, if you order anything over £18 from PlayUSA you are running the risk of being charged.

Customs came down big on DVDSoon for showing $12 on all items. So now they show the true price on the packets :thumbsdow

I order most of my movies from DVDSoon and the last 30ish orders have all been stamped by the customs officer. So they are on the look out. I'am hoping they miss North and South the complete collection as this cost £20. But if I do get stung it will still be cheaper than the R2 which is in 3 parts and £26 each

I ordered the R1 Babylon 5 Movie boxset (5 discs) from playUSA.com and escaped customs charges though I was clearly warned when placing the order that custom's charges could be levied. So you can 'escape' some of the time.

I've just had a card sent to me at my desk saying that my order for Star Wars from DVDSoon had been clobbered by customs. £7.88 to pay. I knew the risk when I ordered it in March.

I think when several thousand identical boxes arrived at our shores the customs guys got a bit suspicious!

I'll probably get stung on my Stargate series 7 boxset but it's still cheaper than buying the R2 version. Shame the same can't be said for SW!

    1) Is it cheaper to pre-arrange with customs that you will be importing an item over £18?

    2) Has anyone done it?

    3) Is it difficult, worth the bother?

If you order from Enterprises dvd there are no customs charges.Everything is prepaid. Most of their prices are a few pound dearer than PLAY,but not all.V was the same £22.99 from them.I order all my £18+ material from them. Its cheaper than paying charges, which always entail a £4 post office fee for claiming the money.Enterprises were not listing the Benny Hill sets,so I ordered from Amazon USA,same price as PLAY,but PLAY did not have it in stock weeks after the release. It arrived this week.....with £8.47 charges. Thanks
