    Welcome to the forums

What kind of speakers are you looking for, sub/sats or floorstanders?

Plus, how important is performance music-wise to you?

Spend the majority on the speakers. I feel if you wanted better sound spending £2000 could sound better then £1000.

How about the Castle Compact CC3's which retail for £1k and Denon 2805 which sells for around £550?

£2000 is a lot of dough :) the advice already given on the speaker/amp ratio is a good advice.

My spend would probably go along these lines:

    Marantz SR7400 (£399 from Peter Tyson) http://www.petertyson.co.uk
    Quad 12L (fronts) £500 http://www.avland.co.uk/quad/12l/index.htm
    Quad 11L (rears) £379 http://www.avland.co.uk/quad/11l/index.htm
    Quad L Centre £350 http://www.avland.co.uk/quad/lcentre/index.htm
    MJ Acoustics Ref 200 sub (£650) http://www.hifibitz.co.uk/product.asp?id=3781

This comes to a total of £2278, BUT, if you buy all of this from one dealer, and show him the £2000, I'm sure you could haggle to that price point. If not, then the extra £280 would be well spent :). If you want to compromise, you could use 11L's on the fronts as well, and go for a lower priced sub such as the Mordaunt Short MS909, or the Velodyne CHT 12R. Another sub option would be to import an SVS, the PB10 at about £380 all inclusive would be a good buy :)

When I was pondering on purchasing the Quads, AV Land said they'd knock 15% off the price of the package :smashin:
