I've won £2000 worth of vouchers from Superfi

Problem is I already have a decent (I think) AV setup. So do I replace my Denon 3805 amp and Pioneer 868 with say the Arcam 79 & AVr300 amp (wanted these last year) or go for something else?

What Im tring to say is would I notice a difference?

    Thanks in advance :smashin:

Having looked at both, I'd say that you would notice a difference but it wouldn't be night and day. I spent a long time looking at the DVD players and I'd say the DV79 is certainly better but not vastly so. I ended up with a DV79/AVR300 combination. Your DVD player is no slouch and certainly not really out-dated..yet!

If you're looking to invest why not look at spending the cash towards something a bit higher-end? Then you can replace the DVD player at a future point and you've got the makings of a really top-notch system.

There's the AVP700 but you'd need to add a few quid to your budget to get the P1000 to go with it.

If it was my cash I'd definitely spend it on amplification and replace the DVD next time around! :smashin:

Oh and you're a lucky :censored: for winning!!! :D

Thanks for the reply Henry :)

Never thought of that. Not too sure about putting all eggs in one basket if you know what I mean.

I was thinking of going for the DV79/Avr300 combo last year but couldnt really justify the extra dosh over the Denon/Pioneer that I eventually went for. But lady lucks kinda got me thinking again ;)

I'd get hold of a DV79 and see if you think it's worth the extra compared to the 868 which is still a decent player. You will see and hear a difference but not a huge one. Whereas I believe you'd hear a much bigger difference between the 3805 and a decent processor/power amp combo.

I know what you mean about not putting your eggs in one basket, but you've got an opportunity to really build an awesome system and, for what it's worth, I'd definitely go down the processor/power amp combo. I think you'd get the best value for your £2k.

But as always the best way is to go down and listen for yourself!!! :smashin:

Well, you'll have fun doing that regardless!

If you're buying new, it may very well be as I can't think of a processor/power amp combo that's Superfi do that you might want. See what they've got. What I can say is that I think that the DV79 and AVR300 are excellent and I've been very very happy with them. But stand by my original comments that you would think that they're better but probably not enough to justify spending £2k on the upgrade.

Maybe try a post in the Processor and Power Amps section of the forum and specify that you've got £2k+ to spend on brand new kit. You should get some pointers in the right direction. It's a shame that you can't spend it second hand as you'd get some quality kit for that!

fair enough, you're probably right. seriously though, if were covetting something second hand or from another retailer you may be able to get face value or close to it if you post on the classifieds here. any way just a thought, I'm very jealous, I'm looking at getting some arcam kit but I've got to wait til I move house :( , still the second hand AV50 I got off ebay will give me something to tinker with for a while.

    happy spending :)

looking at your current list - i'd say a HDMI switching amp may be a good bet for the future.....

    Denon 3806 & 4306 on the horizon.....plus a few others....
