Ive been planning on building a quiet PC to sit under the TV and playback MP3, DVD and DivX etc from across the LAN. Cheapest I liked was about £300 (add £100 for DVD ROM) using this box and associated MoBo + build time, girder programming and cost of apps.

Then a nice Mr Curry offered me his ex's box for under £200. seems it has a P3, NVidia, Ethernet, IR remote, all OS + Apps in a very quiet box. Plays DVDs and CDs with difital output, it boots in 5secs, is idiot proof, almost never crashes, has a simple OS, and can drive interlaced or progressive displays equally easily - - almost exactly what I was looking for.

A chip and XBox Media Player or YAMP would appear to be all I need now.

Has anyone actually tried this yet?

PS I hear it also plays these new-fangled video games?

Mods, feel free to move this, but Im interested in it as a PC (albeit dedicated) rather than as a games box ..... honestly! ... no really!!
    Argh ... killed again
