    Hi All

I am looking to replace my faithful Yammy DSP A1 in the next few month and have £1000 plus any proceeds from the sale of the Yammy to put towards a replacement any recommendations.

Or should I wait until the new HD sound formats are available.

It is used 60:40 for movies & music

Would be running with the following equipment Mission 75 Series speakers all round, Rotel 985 MKII Power amp and a oldish Sharp PJ (about 3 years old forget the model number)

    Cheers

    KAZER

i would not invest such a huge amount of money in a new receiver at this point. Partly becuase the A1 is still avery good player and secondly, new HD formats will be out soon and most likely you will need another amp.

But, then again it depends on what you are looking for in a new receiver.
    PLxII,i.Link, HDMI switching, 7.1 DD/DTS

How does HD affect sound exactly?

It doesn't effect the sound but most people like the amps to control every thing with all the video going through the amp.
so with everything going HD we need a new amp with HD switching.

With HD comes new flavours of Dolby digital and DTS. Dolby digital plus and DTS-HD will be the new formats for HD. they will be recorded with much higher bit rate due to availability of space on the disk.

So basically, it prudent to wait and get a receiver that has support all these new HD codecs.

Ironically becuase HD DD & DTS tsoundracks will be recorded with much higher bittrate than they are now. They will sound better on our exisiting amplification and no one will see any reason to buy a new receiver.

Unless then the cheeky studios decide to continue recording DD & DTS in low bitrate and new format DD plus and DTS-HD with much higher bitrate, that will force most of us to upgrade

If you invest in a scaler you will end up with better pq and keep the amp you have , as i doubt it will be bettered by much :)
