Samsung Display’s recent announcement that it will quit the LCD TV panel production business left a question mark over who would supply displays for Samsung Electronics’s UHD and QLED TV lines. Well, it appears that Samsung is now revisiting previous arrangements with Sharp.

Sharp and NEC display venture to push 8K + 5G tech

Japanese multinationals NEC Corporation and Sharp Corporation have announced a joint venture to combine their display specialities to mount a response to the increasingly challenging display market.
Sharp has expanded its existing range of slimline 2.0 and 2.1 soundbars to now include Dolby Atmos audio in the newly available HT-SBW800 and HT-SBW460 models.
Having demoed a smaller OLED rival to LG’s Signature rollable R9 model last year, Sharp is now expected to launch conventional 55- and 65-inch OLED models possibly as early as spring this year.
With the LG Signature Series OLED R rollable TV still not out in the consumer market yet, Sharp has revealed it has been developing its own version with broadcaster NHK.
This 4K 60-inch model features HDR, Active Motion 400 and 79% coverage of the BT2020 colour gamut, Ace Pro Ultra Engine, Freeview HD, integrated Harman/Kardon audio and smart features from Aquos Net+ O/S. So is it value for money?
