The Evil Dead Movie Review
This was filmed on a minuscule budget by a bunch of guys with big ambitions and a lot of raw talent (for more info on the making of the film, check out the feature on page 24). It follows five friends who hook up in a deserted cabin, where they are soon under siege from an evil force from the woods which tries to possess them before turning them into demented zombies. The gore flies as freely as the laughs in what is one of the greatest cinematic thrill rides ever conceived. But what really makes it all work is director Sam Raimi's manic camera work. It shows off an innate ability and bravura that remains unmatched to this day. It may have cost next to nothing and been hell to make, but it remains one of the most enjoyable and influential horror movies made.
