The Big White DVD Review
SRP: £11.15

Picture

The picture here is presented as anamorphic 1.85:1. The transfer is very good, with no noticeable artefacts or print defects. The contrast between the bright Alaskan whites and the characters dark fur clothes is handled well and the palette used here is very vibrant. The disc has quite a high bitrate of 8.63 Mbps and this doesn't surprise me as the image seems highly detailed, crisp and clean.

Sound

This release also has a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. It is perfectly functional although never standing out in any area. I didn't notice any real use of the rear channels as this is a dialogue heavy soundtrack. There is a great musical soundtrack to this movie however and this is reproduced well with a good rich sound that works well.

Extras

Despite the “special edition” label on the DVD cover, firstly I could find no evidence of any other “not special” edition of this disc ever having been made but more importantly, the extras that make this “special” are a trailer and a still photo gallery. Hmm. Not much to report on here I'm afraid.
The Big White
As you can no doubt tell from my review, I found The Big White perfectly watchable entertainment... but that's all. It pays lip service to other movies whilst never really creating anything new itself. It has some good acting and is enjoyable but not memorable and there is probably not enough here to warrant a purchase for most people.
