The Abyss Movie Review
The crew of a civilian oil rig are roped into assisting a team of Navy SEALS attempting to locate a missing nuclear submarine. What they discover is enough to set humanity on a new course for the future and send one Navy SEAL armed with a nuclear warhead over the edgeUnanimously panned by critics and lacking the audience appeal of The Terminator series or True Lies, The Abyss only really came into its own when Cameron was allowed to re-edit the film to match his original vision. Of course, the film does still feel like an over-long combination of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Raise the Titanic at times, but thanks to the additional footage, it also manages to capture the spirit of Robert Wise's seminal sci-fi allegory.
The Day the Earth Stood Still. However, it is worth pointing out that both versions of the movie featured on this disc have still had footage cut from the scene involving a rat being placed in liquid oxygen.
