Tears Of The Sun DVD Review
SRP: £27.99

Picture

The 2.40:1 anamorphic transfer looks very good indeed. The colours of the jungle are well saturated and there is plenty of detail, including shadow detail on show. There are some signs of edge enhancement visible now and again and a touch of grain in the darker scenes. But overall this transfer is amongst the better efforts of late and looks nice.

Sound

The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is like a jungle demonstration piece. Every speaker is used throughout with jungle noises surrounding you completely and adding to the setting. Dialogue is rich and natural and the LFE channel is just frightening at points, especially when the African score with deep drums is playing. There are a few thunder storms scattered through the picture and these also sound awesome. The best part is a battle scene toward the end of the picture that has you ducking from bullets in the same way that Saving Private Ryan's first 20 minutes does, but not quite as good.

Extras

The Director offers an interesting and detailed commentary track detailing all aspects of the production and casting. It does however start to drag a little with some long silences, but there are enough hints regarding the problems on set and with the script to make it a worthwhile listen. Also included is an Africa Trivia text commentary, a short audio commentary with the writers, a behind the scenes documentary and a feature with interview of Nigerian locals discussing the countries problems. The disc is rounded off with Trailers for “Charlie's Angels II (With awesome 5.1 sound)”, Bad Boys II, "Tears of the Sun", "Anger Management", "Basic", "Black Hawk Down", “Hollywood Homicide", "Radio" and "S.W.A.T.", all are presented in Dolby 5.1
Tears Of The Sun
The movie promised a lot but really failed to deliver, the audio, visual presentation is good and with a nice compliment of extras.
