Picture
Now I know that this is probably intended, but the level of grain throughout this movie is extremely high. Even in scenes which you think would benefit from a cleaner print, gets a noisy, grainy picture. Colours are subdued and the palette is formed of mostly sepia style browns, reds and yellows. Blacks are on the whole good but could benefit from a little more detail in shadow areas.
Sound
Don't expect a surround fest here as the audio consists of, for the most part, the front three speakers. When the rears do wake up, it's quite refreshing to hear that they still work! LFE is sadly almost entirely missing. Vocals are clear and the general aim of the soundtrack is to create a subtle ambience which actually works well within the context of the material concerned.
Extras
The Alternate Ending is short but adds a nice little twist to the original ending. You can have Director's Commentary on the entire movie and the Alternate Ending where E. Elias Merhige tells us about his fascination with the theory of remote viewing and how he has done some himself. The Remote Viewing demonstration shows us in more detail Merhige's attempt to remote view. This is apparently a science but I'm a little sceptical! The 4-Part Featurette tries hard to convince us sceptics that Remote Viewing does indeed exist, with the help of experts and scientists. It is quite fascinating but am I convinced? Nope! There are also a few trailers which include The Machinist and Enduring Love
A case of style over substance applies here. A very good cast cannot save what amounts to a shoddy plot and awkward direction. The trailer for this movie promises much but unfortunately the movie doesn't deliver on that promise. A renter at best, if you buy it you'll probably only watch it the once. Trust me, I very nearly rated this suspect, zero!!
