Shania Twain: Live In Chicago DVD Review
SRP: £19.99

Picture

Shot in 4:3 Pal format the picture is very good, nice and detailed with strong colours and a reasonably sharp image given today's standards. The transfer allows us to see Shania very clearly, and that is always going to be a plus point in my book! Being a recent release it would have been nice if the DVD of this concert, originally recorded for American T.V. from what Shania herself says during the concert, had included an anamorphic picture, but that would be my only gripe regarding the image here.

Sound

Two tracks are included - Dolby Digital 448 Kbps 5.1 and DD 2.0. The 5.1 track really comes into its own with this being a live concert and the front and centre channels definitely benefit compared with the 2.0, which sounds hemmed-in by comparison. Whilst listening, I found Shania Twain's voice to be better separated from musical instruments in the 5.1 track, especially the violins, which I felt masked her vocals somewhat in the 2.0 track. My only real gripe is that the treble does get a little brittle and sharp at times, becoming a little too shrill when I tested the soundtrack at louder volumes, especially at the end of each song when the screaming of the fans had me reaching for the volume control more than once. Eventually I adjusted the treble and bass settings on my amp after turning off Tone Defeat. Ah, much better.

Extras

The only extras included here are a Shania Twain discography listing CD and DVD releases.
Shania Twain: Live In Chicago
If I am to be perfectly truthful I did at first wonder if I would last the distance by watching this complete live show without, perhaps, being tempted to skip forward a chapter or two. I ended up not only watching every second of the whole show, but I also thoroughly enjoyed it, especially after making a few tone adjustments. I actually wanted some extras to watch afterwards!
Shania Twain - Live In Chicago has good picture quality, albeit shot in 4:3, reasonable sound and left me feeling upbeat and wanting more!
