Pitch Black Movie Review

Hop to

A commercial spacecraft is forced to crash land on an inhospitable desert planet. As if this wasn't bad enough, a highly dangerous criminal, Riddick (Diesel), who was being transported on the vessel escaped during the crash. With the threat of attack continually hanging over the rag-tag group of survivors, things take an even worse turn when they discover the planet's underground caves also play host to hordes of deadly nocturnal alien creatures. Not a problem if they just stay out of the caves, you'd think. But the planet is about to enter a lengthy solar eclipse - within hours the planet will be overrun with these vicious little critters. Thanks to an operation he underwent in jail, Riddick can see in the dark, and so the group must put their lives in the hands of the one man they shouldn't trust...
So far, so predictable, and indeed it would have stayed this way if not for the tireless efforts of the writers to confound viewers by leaving them guessing at who will die next. While it might not have anything original to say for itself, Pitch Black is a superb example of the sci-fi/horror subgenre and provides one hell of an entertaining ride.
