A conversation with Author Cecelia Ahern - (7mins 33secs) A one on one interview with Cecelia Ahern including interviews with some of the lead cast. She explains how she began writing at 14 and how this her first novel was completed at the age of 21. The interview is presented in HD.
The name of the game is Snaps - (4mins 49secs) A rather strange black & white featurette about how the game of snaps is played. Not sure what the relevance of this was to the movie and its insertion in the extras is pretty pointless.
Additional Footage - (12mins 19secs) A number of additional scenes that were deleted from the film. The most interesting of these is a scene where Gerry Kennedy goes to a travel agent to arrange the trip to Ireland for Holly before he dies. The film itself never shows Gerry writing his letters or him sorting out his post-death arrangements. This particular scene gives an indication of what the movie may have been like if it had included Gerry doing these things. It's not very good and it's probably for the best it was deleted as is with all the other deleted scenes.
Music Video - (3mins 51secs) The music video of “Same Mistake” by James Blunt.
The performances from the leading cast are unspectacular and I doubt whether Gerard Butler or Hilary Swank will be involved in romantic comedies again from the strength of their showings on offer here. Neither was convincing. The film also probably runs for 30-40 minutes too long. The blu-ray disc is an unspectacular video presentation and the audio nor the extras have enough in them to elevate it sufficiently to warrant a high definition purchase.
If you're after a chick flick that is not quite the norm then in some ways it's probably worth a watch. However, it fails to engage as a romantic comedy and it also fails to engage as a serious romantic movie. The end result becomes a bland, harmless, muted and sensitive movie. I would suggest a rental before you consider a purchase.
