Luke Wilson is Mitch Martin a normally 38 year old middle class guy who gets a nasty surprise when he arrives home early from a business trip. He walks into the bedroom to find his wife (Juliette Lewis) hosting a sex party. Mitch takes the opportunity to leave his wife and move into a new house on the university campus, much to his friends delight. Both his mates, also pushing 40, try to convince Mitch to turn his new place into a frat house, but not any frat house, one where anyone can join and it doesn't even matter if you go to the University or what age you are. Frank (Will Ferrell) and Beanie (Vince Vaughn) go one step further and organise a party at the house without Mitch's knowledge and thanks to the fact Beanie owns and runs Speaker Store his PA for the evening is Snoop Dog. This party sets them up as stars on campus and it's not long before their frat house gets going, much to the disapproval of the University Dean who tries to shut them down.
Ok so this all sounds very formulaic and it makes no apologises for being so, but what makes this film so funny and so different is the inspired casting of the three main characters. Wilson, Ferrell and Vaughan just have a brilliant chemistry together and are so funny playing the mid life crisis losers that are so easy to relate too. The usual situations you expect in comedies like this have been tweaked quite a bit to make them seem fresh and funny. I laughed so hard watching this inspired low brow comedy and can heartily recommend it.
