Mulholland Falls DVD Review
SRP: £17.99

Picture

The shiny cars, snappy costumes, brightly-lit deserts and blue skies of LA are clearly delineated by a sharp transfer, but unfortunately the aspect ratio on this disc is 4:3. The original movie was made in 1.85:1, and there are clear instances where the pan-and-scan cropping has spoiled the composition of the frame, so the question has to be why?

Sound

Again, the original movie had Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, but here we get only stereo. Although the dialogue is clear and sound effects sharp, the full impact of scenes such as the machine-gun attack on the beach house and the fight in the plane is lost. So again, we have to ask why we have been treated to a half-hearted production.

Extras

A trailer, a filmography and a small photo gallery. We're not aware of there being a Region 1 edition but if there is you can bet it would be better than this.
