Kung Fu Hustle DVD Review
SRP: £15.49

Picture

It's a lovely looking affair. Rich, vibrant colours with no bleeding or motion smearing. Deep blacks. Little grain. Hardly any noticeable edge enhancement. The transfer is excellent with the period photography coming up shining like a new pin. There's a lot of fast action and CGI but the transfer copes with it all admirably. I doubt the other region discs will look any better than this.

Sound

Like the visuals, the sound is top quality. The DTS and the Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes have great separation on all channels with both subtle effects and bombastic noises coming through loud and proud. The soundtrack is a lively affair with everything thrown at you from silly cartoon noises to melancholic tunes and orchestral sweeps and the subwoofer moves into use during fight scenes with walls and suchlike being demolished with suitably effective quakes.

Extras

Apart from some trailers for a few Columbia Tristar releases, there are no special features. I might as well mention that this particular standard amaray release came with some free postcards. Well, it's an extra of sorts, isn't it?

Damn good chop-socky fun!
