Girl Next Door, The: Unrated Edition DVD Review
SRP: £28.98

Picture

Picture quality is above average although doesn't leap out at you for any reason. Asides from the odd compression error and one or two scratches the image is well constructed from the original print. Neither amazingly sharp nor detailed, but with little errors to worry about either word of the day here is average.

Sound

The musical score to “Girl Next Door” is memorably uplifting, with some great guitar music and vocals, and where it needs to it explores explosive rock and hip-hop tracks. “Outlaw” gives the subwoofer a thorough workout as the boys enter the school prom, and other crowd scenes make good use of atmosphere effects too. The flashy direction is boosted by the odd quick flying effect to keep things interesting. Not much other chance to use the rear channels in a movie like this. Dialogue and vocals are clear and concise in an all in all well put together soundtrack.

Extras

This disc is chock full of special features. The Eli Experience sees the flamboyant Chris Marquette (who plays Eli) at a real Porn Convention pretending to be a director and getting members of the public to go through some pretty embarrassing stuff and “A Look Next Door” is a complete collection of backstage footage and interviews with cast and crew as they discuss the difficulties met putting the film together. The best bits for me are the gag reel (I'm a sucker for a good gag real and the personalities of the cast really come through) and the deleted and extended scenes section including an alternate ending,
Girl Next Door, The: Unrated Edition
The Girl Next Door is a real feel good movie with a great soundtrack and plenty of extras. I'm off to watch it again!
