Picture

This is a low budget movie from the 80's, so no, picture quality is not good. Colours appear waxen, definition is poor with edges appearing to smear due to excess noise and specs of dirt come and go like small flies landing on the camera lens. Contrasts between the snow of the movie's location and the actors is somewhat heavy handed with whites appearing pretty good, but all other scenery darkened too much. This is not a movie to show off your latest Runco Projector! That said, this kind of picture does fit the movie and, poor period FX aside, this kind of picture was only marginally off putting.

Sound

This is a low budget movie from the 80's, so no, sound quality is not good! Same again except, audio-wise, things aren't quite so bad. There is an echo, almost like a subtle flange effect, to sound-imaging, making wooden floorboards in living rooms sound like they should be in Blenheim Palace. Bass is non-existent, but treble is okay with voices never appearing “shouty”. Rear speakers are not well used, as the sound is only DD 2.0. I found Pro Logic II elevates the sound over Neo6 or plain stereo, even if more noise was added, or made apparent, when listening thus. Again, the poor sound comes hand in hand with these movies, so I wasn't too bothered by it.
Ghost Story

Extras

None. Not surprising, considering the age of the cast and the kind of movie this is.
Ghost Story
I like horror movies. Actually I really really like them, so this review is bound to be skewed somewhat. Nevertheless, Ghost Story is a movie made with older values at heart. The phrase “they don't make 'em like they used to” was coined for Ghost story. While antediluvian production values and acting styles may endear the fan, this is still a average disc, especially given the original novel's promise.
