Picture

The double sided dual layer disc has the Anamorphic and Full screen versions on separate sides. The 1.85:1 Anamorphic transfer was used for this review and looks excellent. The image has a real three dimensional look to it with copious amounts of detail on show and a first class sharpness to the transfer. Colours are well saturated and stable with blacks looking solid and shadow detail looking very good. I just could not find any flaws with the image at all, there are no signs of edge enhancement or pixilation issues and the print is crystal clear with no dirt or grain present. This is quite simply a first class transfer that looks gorgeous.

Sound

The soundtracks presented on this disc have been mastered for DVD playback so require no equalisation such as THX. The Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES Discrete sound mixes are absolutely stunning in their over the top presentation. New Line are one of only a handful of studios who make any kind of effort when it comes to Discrete sound mixes such as the DTS track featured here and must be congratulated for letting us sound freaks get the goods. The entire soundtrack is dynamic with aggressive use of the surround channels at every opportunity, with bass feeling tight and low. Both the Dolby and DTS mixes are near identical with only a slight difference in overall control making the DTS the better option, but to be honest it would only be the discrete channel which would let you know which track you were listening too, as both are very good indeed.

Extras

A feature Length Commentary track kicks off the extras and includes input from the director, producer and writers. The commentary is a fun account of what the team achieved to pull the movie together with some very funny stories from the production thrown in for good measure. Next up is an excellent 30 minute documentary covering the history of the Genre and is really interesting for any horror movie fans. Next we meet people who have cheated death in real life and talking about their near death experiences with experts discussing the merits of the phenomenon and runs for 18 minutes. Even stranger than that is the next feature called the terror gauge. Basically three teens pull off the street are strapped up to all kinds of medical gadgets and then subjected to the movie to see how they react. I have no idea why we are given such a feature as it makes no sense what so ever, but it runs for 14 minutes. Next up is the usual Infinifilm feature which basically takes you to behind the scenes footage as you watch the film. And the last few extras are five deleted scenes with optional commentary, three trailers, two music videos, an interactive game and DVD-ROM content.
Final Destination 2
The movie is fun and gory with excellent first rate picture and sound and is packed with some very interesting extras, recommended.
