Fast And The Furious, The: Tricked Out Edition DVD Review

The picture transfer is very good indeed, but is no different to that of the original R1 Collectors edition release. The 2.35:1 Anamorphic transfer is identical and that means that this edition just looks superb. The image is very detailed and sharp with excellent colour reproduction and saturation, blacks are deep and strong and there si plenty of shadow detail on show. There is a slight problem with edge enhancement but this only effects a few scenes and doesn't detract from the overall experience which is spot on and first class, top marks.

Available in both DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 the soundtrack is one of the most aggressive I have heard in some time. You are taken straight into the middle of the action with the surrounds used constantly to fill in the entire soundfield. Even when things get quiet, the surrounds are still outputting the film score to great effect, and at no time does this get uncomfortable. The sheer dynamics involved in the mix are first class with deep tight bass and clear high end, along with intelligible dialogue fixed squarely at the screen. The dts track just pips the Dolby track for sounding more open and natural, with a tighter deep end. It should be noted that the R2 release of this disc called “The Turbo Edition” is Dolby Digital only.

The extras kick off with a prelude to the next film “2 Fast 2 Furious” and stars Paul Walker reprising his role from when the screen faded to black in the Fast and The Furious. The short film has no dialogue yet gives us the story to the point where the next film will begin, and is interesting viewing. Next we get a trailer for “2 fast 2 Furious” followed by a feature on the making of The fast and the furious which is quite detailed and of interest to fans. We then get a Blue Peter type feature on how to modifying an Evo 8 which is again interesting and presented by the 2002 Playmate of the year! Rounding off the disc are trailers and some DVD Rom content. Overall this is a light but informative group of extra features.
The transfer is identical to the Collectors Edition as are the soundtracks, however the extras are new, if a little light. If you already have a copy of this movie then I see no need to buy this edition, but if are still to buy a version, this might be th
