fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le Movie Review
Oddball Parisian waitress Amélie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) flees her difficult home life and her miserable father and moves to an apartment block surrounded by her gossipy work mates, a cruel greengrocer and his bullied assistant, and an old Existentialist. Shocked at Princess Diana's death, Amélie decides to spend her life making other people happy. Comedy and tragedy meet head on in this gloriously colourful and quixotic love story from the master of grand guignol, Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It's set in a dreamlike Paris of vivid colours bathed in golden light, which the 2.35:1 anamorphic image presents beautifully. There's no artefacting, and it succeeds in capturing minute details and superb colour rendition with a consistently high transfer rate. Sound in DD 5.1and DTS really enhances ambient sounds of Montmartre life. The second disc of extra features contains all you could ask, including a reel of outtakes of Tautou's fluffs during filming, called Audrey Tautou's Funny Faces, a storyboard to screen sequence, a Q&A session with the director and some cast members, an interview with Jeunet about the DVD, screen tests, and home video footage of Tautou during filming.
