Edward Scissorhands: Special Edition DVD Review
SRP: £19.99

Picture

The anamorphic 1.85:1 print looks absolutely fantastic throughout, with every minute detail picked out to its full glory, and darker sequences such as Edward emerging from the shadows in Chapter 4 offering perfect fidelity and not a trace of grain or digital artefacts.

Sound

As you'd expect, this isn't the sort of film to offer any spectacular surround effects, but the Quad Surround presentation offered by the DVD does its job well enough with subtle spatial effects moving across the front speakers and Danny Elfman's magnificent score getting superb treatment. Effective and evocative, but not particularly exciting.

Extras

While a little on the limited side, this disc still throws up a few interesting additional features. In addition to Fox's typically wonderful animated/scored menus, the disc also offers a commentary track by Burton (it's just a pity that none of the cast could join him for the recording), an isolated score complete with a commentary by Danny Elfman, a rather pointless 41/2 min promo featurette, a collection of brief interview soundbites, two theatrical trailers, three TV spots, and a rather limited collection of concept art.
