Destiny's Child: Live In Atlanta DVD Review
MSRP: £13.99

Picture

Destiny's Child: Live in Atlanta is presented with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio anamorphically enhanced widescreen transfer that looks pretty good, particularly for concert footage. Detail remains relatively good throughout, with only a few softer, less clear longer sequences and grain apparent over some shots more than others. There's no edge enhancement, however, nor signs of any other significant digital artefacting. The colour scheme, though limited by the setting, is made quite broad by the ladies' choice of outfits and the on-stage action. Despite the fact that live performances, by their very nature, do not have that picture-perfect look of most music videos, few fans will have a problem with how their cherished favourites are presented here.

Sound

We get a solid Dolby Digital 5.1 track to accompany Destiny's Child: Live in Atlanta and it does a tremendous job, fully utilising the six-speaker surround sound format to bring the live concert atmosphere right into your living room. The audience reactions - cheers and screams and applause - predominate the rears, whilst the songs themselves get mainly frontal treatment. Again, despite the fact that this does not have the false manufactured 'perfection' of a studio-recorded production, it still allows the music to shine and, arguably, gives the tracks a more dynamic presentation than previously, along with some decent bass thrown into the mix.

Extras

In the way of extras we firstly get a Featurette entitled Destiny's Child: A Family Affair. This lasts over half an hour and has plenty of behind the scenes footage and interviews with the singers, their fans (including other celebrities) and various background production members. They talk about how the group came into existence, with footage from their childhood, then discuss their popularity and success, also noting that this is the end but that nobody can say what the future will hold.

Next we have a whole bunch of Fan Testimonials. These are split into sections: Favourite Song, Favourite Costumes, The Show and Cater 2 U - The Chosen Few. Lasting nearly fifteen minutes and interspersed with excerpts from what they are talking about, we get fans explaining why they love Destiny's Child.

There is a Kelly Rowland Sophomore CD Teaser, which promotes Kelly's new solo album.

We also get a “Dreamgirls” movie and soundtrack Trailer - the new movie with Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy and Beyonce.

Finally there are three exclusive Bonus Audio Tracks: “Flashback” with Kelly Rowland, “Let's Stay Together” with Michelle Williams and “Check On It” with Beyonce, Bun B and Slim Thug (for which we also get the Music Video).

Destiny
Destiny's Child: Live in Atlanta is a fond farewell to this trio of entertaining female performers. That is, until they find their solo careers flagging (even more) and choose to do a reunion show. The picture quality is reasonably good for concert footage and the sound quality is excellent, allowing us to enjoy this band performing some of their most popular hits in glorious six-speaker surround sound. There are also a bunch of decent extras, rounding this disc off as a must-have purchase for fans of the group.
