Charmed Movie Review
So, having reviewed Season 2 and enjoyed it, Season 3 is now with me and the question is really is it any good? I mean, last time I criticised it for being very episodic without any huge season long plot thread - have they addressed it or is this the same ol' song and dance? OK, my show synopsis from last time follows (heck - the general show dynamic hasn't changed, right?)

Prue (Doherty), Piper (Combs) and Phoebe (Milano) are the gifted, oops I mean Charmed, ones whom have special powers which are, telekinesis, the ability to freeze time and precognition respectively. Each week, they take on a different villain whom is hell bent on either destroying them, someone close or they want their evil hands (or claws) on the Book Of Shadows. This book is their spell book, which has been handed down to them and is, in all reality, a major plot device for various stories. All the time they are battling evil (Hey, just like Buffy), they have their everyday lives to contend with, from jobs to dating and PMS (Hey, just like Buffy). Having obvious comparisons to Buffy, most of the monsters are demons and warlocks, as opposed to demons and vampires, although I wouldn't be shocked if a vampire cropped up in a future episode.Well, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I found this season a bit weaker in general. They sort of got the idea of having a season arc story line, which managed to last a whole 8 episodes! The introduction of Julian McMahon as Balthazar should have been superb, but they rushed the plot line and in doing so, made me go “Eh? Now what?” after the first 2 disks. If you're going to have a potential threat, at least make it last. No, not here. What we get is him falling in love with Phoebe - understandable, as Milano is cute, but doesn't really work for the show. We've had Buffy saving the world against major nemesis's, even other shows, from American Gothic to Lois & Clark understood that you have to have something to bind the episodes together. No, Charmed is doing it's monster of the week thing yet again, but conversely that does mean it's an easily accessible show. You don't need to have seen seasons 1 and 2 to watch any episode here. However, and this is a huge however, I have NO clue as to what happened at the end of the series. I tried to find out if it had been cancelled and brought back because this ends on a HUGE cliffhanger, so of course, I wanted to see the resolution and not wait until March. Oh boy did they fumble the ball. Worst...Resolution.....Ever. Anyway that's for another day and another review. This is still a fun show but I don't really think it's on a par with the second season; it just seemed less....fun. Doherty is now on very equal footing with Milano and Combs in terms of screen time, although I would argue that Milano does seem to be getting more centre stage than her co-stars, althought she does make a superb looking Elvira.
