Bad Boys Superbit DVD Review
SRP: £26.95

Picture

Presented in this edition as a superbit title, the image is rather disappointing. The bitrate reads 9.8 throughout, so there is no doubt it uses a higher rate than normal, but where it falls down is with the source print. The print is old and looks washed out in certain scenes, and there are large amounts of dirt and grain. The image is detailed, and during most of the movie the colours look good, without any blooming or bleeding. But it is the fact Columbia have been lazy, and not used a cleaned up print to start with that annoys me, I feel it is unacceptable to release a Disc which claims to be the finest picture quality, when the print contains dirt and grain. Poor show, and this edition doesn't improve any on the current R1 and R2 collector's edition.

Sound

As with all Superbit Titles, we have the choice of Dolby Digital and dts soundtracks. Both are very dynamic with great use of the split surrounds and LFE channel, and there are plenty of excuses for OTT surround action and explosions. Both tracks sound very similar, with the dts track being slightly more detailed and controlled, but not by much. A good action movie soundtrack which gives plenty of demo quality sequences.

Extras

None here, this is a superbit title.
Bad Boys Superbit
A funny movie with plenty of action and a great soundtrack, let down by a picture that should be far better than it is.
