Atlantis: The Lost Empire: Collector's Edition DVD Review
SRP: £24.99

Picture

The first disc in this set contains a fantastic anamorphic 2.35:1 image that shows off the stunning design and animation to magnificent effect. Delineation is perfect throughout, the blue/green-tinted colour scheme shines through without bleed and the amount of detail on offer is staggering. Nothing less than perfect in every respect.

Sound

Both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS audio mixes are included on the disc. There is little to choose between them, but when you consider that both offer a superb dynamic range, deep bass extension and excellent separation across the entire speaker set-up, there really isn't anything to moan about.

Extras

This two disc set features a real plethora of features including audio and visual commentaries and Atlantian trivia on the first disc. Disc Two is broken down into seven sections (History, Story and Editorial, Art Direction, Animation Production, Digital Production, Music and Sound, and Publicity) and while there is simply too much material to go into here, each contains a variety of supplementary features including numerous featurettes, extensive art galleries, original story treatments, deleted scenes, trailers and much more. All in all, there's more than enough material here to keep you going for weeks. In addition to the standard manner of viewing these sections, you also have the choice of a guided tour around the extras or a simple inventory screen with direct feature access. Exemplary.A brave and successful new move for Disney on a DVD. The package is well up to the company's earlier high standards.
