Hop to

Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie stars Audrey Tautot as a young French girl who decides to devote herself to helping others find happiness, without ever wondering about her own life. Amélie is delightful, with captivating performances and stunning visual style, but feels a touch empty and hollow at times, with nothing to really say for itself. The anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer shows no sign of artefacting and it perfectly captures the intricate detailing of the film. Both the DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 French language audio mixes make great use of the surrounds. Also offered is an interesting English language audio commentary by Jeunet. In the end this is an enjoyable, if slight, film on a respectable disc which we can't help but recommend, especially now that the planned two-disc special edition has been held up by legal wrangles.
