Alien vs. Predator : UMD DVD Review
SRP: £19.99

Picture

So far, I've not seen a bad picture on the PSP with regards to movies and this is no different, even if the movie is just plain awful. It's very sharp and detailed, with no damage to the print, or any dust or scratch marks. To be honest I would expect this to have a decent quality to the picture, mostly due to it being a recent release, but after the critical mauling, I'd be shocked if it lasted long in cinemas too. Unlike I, Robot, the CGI elements didn't look quite as superficial, but there's clearly not as many. Another good transfer here.

Sound

Sadly, it is very much the case as it was with the other 2 UMD titles - so excuse me yet again as I use the same text.

Well with a stereo only soundtrack, this works best if you a) don't use the PSP headphones and b) don't use the built in speaker either. Changing to a decent pair of headphones does improve things no end, with the dialogue clear and some nice use of stereo effects. However, as a criticism in general, it's a shame that it is still too quiet, even with maximum volume and boosting the PSP video to +2 as well. Having said that, noise cancelling headphones did help, but don't expect too much from the soundtrack here, as it is functional without being exceptional.

AvP? Taking the P is nearer the mark - again, Anderson should not be let loose near a DVD player, let alone a movie camera. On the other side of the coin, if you are a masochist, you'll love this movie. If you're a sadist, make sure you buy this for everyone for Christmas. It's movies like this where I wish that Lacuna really existed.
