Alice in Wonderland Movie Review
Determined to catch a fob-carrying rabbit that's running late Alice squeezes through a hole and finds herself in a world where everything is nonsense - nothing is what it is, because everything is what it isn't and contrary-wise what it is, it isn't and what it isn't - it is!! Is that clear? No? Let me try again..........As Alice follows the rabbit, so we follow Alice and we are all transported to a world relinquished of the boredom so prevalent in her, and our, normal everyday world where doorknobs speak and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum honk and squeak whilst philosophising over the art of logic in the riddle of the Walrus and the Carpenter! There, is it clear, now? Still no? Then I apologise for my inadequacies in being able to write in a way that fully expresses the strangeness of Walt Disney's Alice In Wonderland, for strange it truly is.

Full of wonderfully-peculiar characters including an Arabian-styled caterpillar that smokes from a hookah and, completely uncaring of any possible harmful effects, blows smoke fully into poor Alice's face! Politically correct? Nah, this is 1951 - had the term even been invented?! Alice In Wonderland is less concerned with a moralistic storyline, preferring to entertain in a much more direct way - with some mad, almost semi-cruel characters that challenge what we, or at least I, have come to expect from more recent and traditional Walt Disney DVD releases. This is a movie that will appeal to the both the younger set, my two-and-a-half year old was mesmerised, as well as to those old enough to understand conundrums and philosophical argument. Truly a Disney DVD that cuts across the age divide.
