A Bug's Life Movie Review
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few years, or if you harbour a disliking for all things Pixar, you'll have undoubtedly seen A Bug's Life. Directed by John Lasseter (of Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Monster's Inc fame amongst others), this movie tells the story of an ant called Flik, an eccentric inventor ant with a good heart but who is seemingly followed by disaster.

As he single-handedly destroys the Colony's years work of gathering food for the evil Grasshoppers (led by the menacing Hopper, who's voiced by Kevin Spacey), he sets out on a quest into the unknown, to find some Warrior Bugs to help fight off the Grasshoppers when they're due to return in the Autumn.

No-one believes Flik will ever succeed in his task, and it comes as no surprise that the only fighting force he can recruit turns out to be a band of incompetent Circus Bugs. Of course, the colony who've hailed Flik as a hero on his return has no idea that their fabulous fighting bugs are actually a scared bunch of underachieving actors, but it doesn't take long before the secret is out...

A Bug's Life is classic Pixar. Some cite this as being the weakest of the studio's productions, but from a personal point of view this is one of my favourites. With a simple yet effective plot, wonderful characters and animation, this is a surefire winner. The movie itself is multi-layered (there are always some more serious themes underlying much of Lasseter's work), and the jokes will appeal to both kids and adults alike. Put simply, if you haven't seen this movie before then go and buy the DVD now! - highly recommended.
