7 Seconds DVD Review

Presented in a 1:85:1 anamorphic presentation, the film has been encoded well on to the disc. The outside locations are clear and concise, with the white Eastern European buildings looking particularly attractive. Skin tones are good and the blacks especially on the night time scenes are deep and rich. Considering apart from a few trailers, there is nothing on the disc and the film was only made last year the picture had better be good. Sony have delivered on a good picture, shame the film wasn’t as good.

A good old fashioned Dolby Digital 5.1 action soundtrack for 7 Seconds with gunshots flying around the speaker set up and car screeching in the rears. The synthesizer soundtrack is encoded well and sounds great when turned up on my system. Dialogue is clear and comes mainly from the centre channel. The car chases are nicely presented and really crank up the atmosphere on the film. The LFE channel is used throughout the film, not all the time but used well in the explosion sequences and gun shots.

Just trailers for Full Throttle, Layer Cake, Rescue Me and XXX: Director’s Cut. Quite pathetic really. Surely the film had an electronic press kit, where’s the ‘making of’ featurette or at least, we could have had a couple of interviews?
I was really looking forward to seeing this film. Throughout it, I desperately wanted the film to be good. However, apart from the afore-mentioned car chases and a comical villain ‘with the shakes’ 7 Seconds is distinctly below average entertainment.
