24 Movie Review
Following a tip that a presidential candidate is to be assassinated, FBI agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) learns that his wife and daughter have been kidnapped to ensure his complicity with the scheme. With the likelihood that there is a traitor in his squad, Bauer has to rescue his family, counter the terrorist plans and uncover a conspiracy from his own past - and all within 24 hours...

If you have been glued to the recent TV showing of 24, you won't need us to tell you that it's one of the most compelling, absorbing and fast-paced shows around, the real-time action and split-screen editing adding to the novelty. Presuming that you've seen it on TV, watching it on disc loses the suspense, but it allows you to pick up plot points you missed first time, and to experience it in more like real time, without the annoying waits between episodes. You'll also be able to see it in a sharp 16:9 anamorphic widescreen transfer, though disappointingly, the sound is still Dolby Stereo. The six-disc set features all 24 41-minute episodes (they aren't one hour each, as the American timing includes ad breaks). As extras you get subtitles, an alternative ending and a 'preview' of Series Two, which is nothing of the sort. Not the package we had been hoping for, we have to admit.
