2010: The Year We Make Contact DVD Review
SRP: £15.99

Picture

While certainly not the worst transfer we've ever come across, it's made worse by virtue of being presented in a non-anamorphic version of the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. This means you have to zoom in on the image when viewing on a 16:9 television. Pausing the shot of the monolith that starts Chapter 21 reveals the blacks and greys to betray heavy pixellation. Apart from these complaints, it all looks very clean if a little on the soft side.

Sound

Not quite what you'd hope for from a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. The rear speakers are criminally under-used, with the fronts getting the lion's share of the action. Still, there's plenty of life in the LFE channel and dialogue and music presentation is exemplary.

Extras

Nothing, not even the rather brief featurette which appeared on the Region 1 disc.
