    Picture

It's hard to pick fault with We Were Soldiers' anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer. Colours are natural, detail levels are high, and despite the frantic pace, the image never gives in to artefacting or digital smearing.

    Sound

There's little more than ambient noise during the first part of the film, but once the soldiers arrive at Landing Zone X-Ray, the DD 5.1 mix picks up the pace and rarely lets up for the following 90-minutes of screen time. It's not as impressive as Black Hawk Down, but this is magnificently dynamic, and makes full use of the surrounds and LFE.

    Extras

The DVD presents a solid collection of extras including a 25-minute Making of... , an audio commentary from the director, ten deleted scenes with optional commentary, plus trailers, TV and radio spots.

    Verdict

Politically suspect but still entertaining Gibson action-fest, gets a great treatment on DVD.
