    Picture

Being a low budget production the 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer looks surprisingly clean and clear with a nice sharpness to the image. Colours are rich and well saturated with no signs of bleed or bloom and blacks appear solid with good shadow detail. There are signs of grain present and I put this down to the film stocks used for the production and would say that this is intentional. Edge enhancement is seen in various areas of the film, mostly against bright backgrounds producing a light halo effect to edges. Skin tones appear natural and the image is sharp with only the wider shots showing a soft edge to the picture. Overall this is an above average presentation.

    Sound

Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 the sound mix is quite energetic with a nice enveloping feel. Gun shots and action scenes provide subtle surround use with the score taking full advantage of the sound stage. Dialogue is intelligible and the entire sound mix has a pleasant dynamic feel. Nothing special but this soundtrack does its job without drawing attention to itself.

    Extras

Extras include an interesting commentary track from the director which covers the production and filming. Next are interviews with the director and Michael Caine, these are informative on how the project came about and what happened during the production. Moving on we have a short featurette on the making of the film with good behind the scenes footage and finally there are deleted scenes.

    Verdict

A surprisingly good thriller with excellent performances and a nice DVD presentation.
