The 51st State DVD Review
PictureThe disc's transfer is slightly grainier than we were expecting for such a new movie, but in most other regards the anamorphic 2.35:1 image holds up well. Colours are natural, detail levels are high and the image is free from digital blemishes and edge-enhancement.
SoundBoth the DD 5.1 and DTS mixes are grand. Whether it's subtle ambient effects or manic gunfire, the surrounds are always given something to do, and there's a fair amount of bass in the bigger action scenes. Despite getting lost in the mix occasionally, dialogue presentation is generally strong.
ExtrasInside the extras menu you'll find a brief Making of..., four amusing home video featurettes shot by the writer, a trailer, stills gallery, four interviews and DVD credits. In the setup menu you'll find a full-length audio commentary by writer Stel Pavlou and co-producer Mark Aldridge.
VerdictA fun film that will undoubtedly play well to those looking for Friday night, drink-fuelled viewing. The disc isn't too bad either.
