A full array backlight and X1 Extreme Processor on a smaller screen size

by Steve Withers Jan 30, 2018 at 10:29 AM

  • Although the ZD9 will remain Sony's flagship LED LCD TV for the third year in a row, they will also be releasing the BRAVIA XF9005 in 2018. This new model is particularly interesting because, unlike last year's XE9005, it now includes the X1 Extreme processor, which means that it will also be upgraded to Dolby Vision later in the year. The XF9005 also uses a full array backlight with local dimming and now includes X-Motion Clarity that combines black frame insertion with the backlight to deliver smoother motion without adversely affecting the overall brightness of the screen. The XF9005 will also include the Android Smart TV platform and boast Sony's usual minimalist styling and a stand comprised of two feet. It will be available in April in screen sizes of 49-inces (KD-49XF9005), 55-inches (KD-55XF9005), 65-inches (KD-65XF9005) and 75-inches (KD-75XF9005). The KD-49XF9005 and KD-55XF9005 offer the promise of a direct LED backlight and the X1 Extreme processor on smaller screen sizes for the first time.
