Seal: Live At The Point DVD Review

Hop To

    SRP: £15.99

    Picture

Starting with the concert in full frame video, image quality is best described as adequate. The transfer suffers from a large amount of video noise with colour bleed clearly visible. The image also suffers from a softness which means any detail is lost in the haze and there is a large amount of halo or edge enhancement seen throughout. Moving on to the acoustic set the image again is adequate with the same problems visible and the four music videos don't look any better. In fact two, Crazy and Future Love Paradise suffer from large amounts of video noise and mpeg artefacts.

    Sound

Sound mix choices here are impressive with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround options along with PCM stereo. Moving between the three options I found the PCM track to provide the best quality for the live performance. The stereo mix handles the dynamics and sound stage in a natural and life like manner, switching to 5.1 adds some unwanted colouration of the mix. Even in DTS which normally handles music well, I found the sound unnatural in its presentation with sounds and instruments coming from the rears mudding the sound stage. Overall although the bottom end is a little light the sound mix is very good. Moving onto the videos and the acoustic sections, these are presented in stereo only and sound very good indeed.

    Extras

The extras are marked as the acoustical and video sections, so no extras here then.

    Verdict

An energetic concert with poor picture quality but good audio presentation. A must for fans and to those with a passing interest.
